Integrating Innovative Approaches for Competitive and Sustainable Performance across the Mediterranean Aquaculture Value Chain

Consortium

The PerformFISH consortium consists of 28 partners from 10 different European countries, coordinated by the University of Thessaly in Greece.  The PerformFISH consortium includes leading scientific genetics and genomics teams who will work closely with major fish farming companies currently running selection programmes.

PerformFISH is unique in its direct access through the fish farming associations to Third Party commercial sea bass and sea bream producers who will participate in pilot scale trials and full-scale field trials. This is the first time that such a large consortium of producers has committed to Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) trials and it is unique because of dimension, geographic spread and the fact that it will cover all elements of the production cycle and different production systems. By including all major fish farming associations as partners, with individual companies as third parties to the associations, the PerformFISH consortium is highly representative of the sector, ensuring that knowledge, innovation and other improvements benefit the widest possible number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

The consortium includes pioneering SMEs in aquaculture services and consultancy, with vast cumulative experience in aquaculture EU projects, to implement the activities sanctioned by these key MMFF actors (the associations). Distinguished scientists with deep experience and extensive knowledge of the targeted fish species as well as links and background knowledge from recent flagship research projects at national and EU level have all endorsed the unique approach of PerformFISH.
