Hellenic Centre Marine Research (HCMR)

Organisation Description

The Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC,  http://www.imbbc.hcmr.gr) is one of the three institutes of HCMR.

The Department of Aquaculture aims on the understanding and the control of the biological mechanisms involved in the rearing process of marine organisms (physiology, pathology, ethnology, developmental biology, immunology, metabolism). The department is working towards the development of appropriate production systems, technologies and husbandry methods for all the developmental stages of the reared organisms in close collaboration with the private sector. The department of Genetics is mainly interested in the development and application of molecular genetic markers in aquaculture to assist breeding programmes for Mediterranean fish species, and recently in comparative genomics and the introduction of next-generation sequencing (NGS) approaches in freshwater, marine and terrestrial biodiversity.

Role in PerformFISH

The institute will participate in Perform Fish in WP1 (WP leader), WP2 (task Leader), WP3 (task leader), WP4 (task leader), WP6, WP7, WP8, WP9.
